Hi,
What's the side effect of getting a glass or contact that is
-0.25 higher than your power... assuming there is no headache.
I mean.. would it cause your sight to get worse by -0.25 later
(eg.. the eyes can change to match the increased power of the
glass/contacts). I'm wearing a contact that is -0.25 above my
power but suffering no headache. I'm just concerned what other
side effect it can cause. Thanks.

No. How do you know that your power is -0.25 too strong? Because you can
see just as well with a lens that has -0.25 less, and if you can see just
as well with -0.25 less, then by definition you haven't gotten more
nearsighted. Minor fluctuations in power are fairly common.

Well. My contacts is originally rated at -8.0 diopters. I get one
with -8.25 diopters just to see what it would be like. It may
be a little too strong.. but I don't encounter headaches. I'm just
concerned my eyes may adapt to the -8.25 lens and become worse
by -0.25. Is there any basis for this?

For a long time, everybody believed it would. But overcorrecting by small
amounts doesn't make myopia significantly worse, if you ask the professors in
optometry or medicine.

If it doesn't cause discomfort, blur at near, or double vision, most doctors
wouldn't consider it harmful.

Besides getting a headache you could get more tired due to accommodation to
correct this little error but normally it is not a problem.
Some people even prefer to be over corrected with a -0.25 dpt giving them
the "feeling" to see sharper (which is not the case)
In very dark circumstances most of the time you even see a little bit
better.
Overall not a big problem when not having headaches or getting tired at the
end of the day
