Isn't there a way for the group administrator to delete posts?  This
site used to be a great resource.  I don't think many (any?) people
visiting this group are interested in buying a pet bed from China.

This is usenet.  It's an entirely unmoderated group.

Sadly....

There is no such thing.  Once established, a usenet newsgroup has a life of its
own.  You can try to get spammers' accounts  eliminated, but they'll just be
back in a slightly different form.

Learn about killfiles (filters).  If googlegroups doesn't provide facilities,
use a real newsreader.  Thunderbird will do a lot of what you want, and it's free.

What's sadder is that moderated groups tend to die :-(

I'm pretty sure omnipotent entities don't need
middlemen to get their message to the people.

Well, maybe things are looking up--there does seem to be one vision-
related post now.

I checked, and the lasik group also seems to be infested with ads for
(possibly toxic) Chinese pet supplies.  Somehow, though, the
sci.med.cardiology group seems to have evaded this fate.  Maybe it's
because of the numerous religious messages by Dr. Chung, who is
apparently an active group member.

Perhaps if enough people used their email link to explain how they're losing
face and that NOBODY will buy pet beds from them.

Last time I did that, the [send] link was followed by an acknowledgement in
chinese; it coulda said "thank you for your interest" but I suspect it just
said "f*ck off".

Perhaps copying the Central Committee with a note that such things reflect badly
on the People's Republic of China and that the entire country and its leaders
are humiliting themselves.

I bet you're right.  I just killfiled the bastards.  So far so good.
