Hello, I just went through PRK surgery (left eye done two fridays ago, right eye done last friday) and my doctor suggested that I start using Muro 128 5% ointment at night. He says that it should help to speed up my recovery, and improve my focus. But all the references I found online indicate that this ointment is used to relieve dry eyes. I don't have a problem with dry eyes, and my vision is very good after the surgery, although I know that it will continue to improve for a few more weeks. So, basically, I rather not use it, since I am not too thrilled about putting gunky stuff into my eyes. I would like to hear from anyone who has used this ointment after PRK for the purpose of improving focus and sharpness, or any other recommendations in this regard. Your doc is reccommending this as a preventative measure. having moist eyes will help you heal faster and more thoroughly. Use the Muro at bed time, (you probably won't need your "goopy" eyes as you sleep). It can only help and there is no downside to using nighttime gels. Sorry if I seem dense on this, but how is this Muro stuff better than just using lubricating drops, which are significantly less icky? There is more to Muro 128 than just lubrication. Muro 128 is a sodium chloride solution. Put (overly) simply, it's salt. The sodium chloride can draw out fluids from the cornea while you sleep and thereby reduce inflammation. Use of Muro 128 at night can be a very good way to improve vision that is affected by cornea edema (inflammation) from surgery. Corneal edema is relatively common after PRK.
