This solution was my favorite but has been discontinued.  The only
option I see locally is Boston, which I dislike because it's so
incredibly goopy.  Anyone have suggestions for an alternative to Boston?

The reason given on the uniqueph site for discontinuing is that the RGP
market is shrinking.  What's the reason for this?  It seems to me that
for people with astigmatism who like good vision, RGP is the only way
to go.  My eye doctor has discouraged me from even experimenting with
soft lenses, "soft contacts give soft vision".

Surfing around, here are the things I've found.

Boston Advance:  Requires separate daily cleaner.  Very goopy.

Boston simplus:  All in one, but requires overnight soak before
cleaning and rinsing. This whole concept of "rinsing" a lens that is
25% covered up just to hold it with something the consistency of dish
soap is lost on me.  Also very goopy.

Boston products are now the only thing available in the store around
here.

Lobob: All in one, people seem to like it.  Something is weird about
how it will irritate the eyes so you need to have saline on hand to
rinse the stuff off prior to insertion?

UniquePh: All in one, clean the night before.  Not goopy, but
discontinued.

Menicare Plus: All in one. Looks promising, but not available in the
US?  Claims to do its job in 5 minutes if you need that.

Menicare GP: All in one, available in US.  Doesn't do the 5 minute
thing.

Anything else?  Opinions?

Lobob works well, but READ THE INSTRUCTIONS (e.g., make sure you rinse
the lens off with wetting solution before inserting the RGPs into your
eyes)

The main reason I think is that silicone hydrogel lenses are just so
good now.

There is little/no reason for a person who is happy and whose eye
health is doing well with RGPs to switch.

What is recommended for wetting solution with Lobob?  They don't seem
to sell such a product, unless you count the "drops" which come in a
30ml bottle, which seems more like eye drops than something you'd rinse
with.

In your opinion, can people who are picky about their vision do well in
toric soft lenses?  I'm mostly happy with RGP, but I really don't like
my night vision due to starbursting when my pupils get big.  I'm not
sure whether it can be solved with RGP.  I'm pretty sure my doctor is
done trying.

The Lobob Optimum wetting/rewetting drops that can be ordered at
LobobLabs.com or at various pharmacies such as WalGreen's.

You could also use Boston Simplicity to rinse with.

It depends.  I wore RGPs for about 7 years prior to switching to
silicone hydrogel CLs.  To be fair, I really don't have any
astigmatism (I'm about a -2.50 DS), but I did notice a bit of a
quality of vision drop, but it was minor.  My eyes are dry and RGPs
were no longer comfortable which is why I made the shift.

Most people who are "mostly happy" with RGPs, especially if they have
considerable astigmatism will not be happy with soft torics -- at
least in my experience.
