Hello,

Can anyone tell me where I might be able to get some sample lens
material so that one of my high school students can do an independant
experiment for a project she is working  on?

She is hoping to use
polycarbonate, trivex, cr-39, and 270 glass.

Any substitutions should be fine, this is just her initial list.  She
would like at least a minium of 3 of the materials.  Thanks in advance
for any help.

Perhaps a thrift store would have some available. Another option would
be the Lion's Club. They gather and redistribute glasses. Lastly would
be to ask a supplier to donate what you need.

I would contact an independent lab who might have returned lenses. You are
not going find any Trivex at a thrift store or Lion's Club.

And if you did, how would you recognize it?

She just needs to call any optical store and ask for the names of the
local labs that they use or if they do their own surfacing.  They well
may have some lenses that were made incorrectly to give her and could
certainly sell her an unfinished blank for a few dollars.
