Hi,

Due to my myopia conditions I cannot have refractive surgery for the
moment.

At present I am wearing the one day disposable J&J and  they are ok

I am investigating the possibility of the extended wear lenses as 3 of
my colleagues wear the purevision and CIBA continuously for a month
and no one have had any problem so far (one of my colleague travelled
in Africa for various months and he was always ok).

However my optician discouraged me from using them and I was told that
4 of his 10 clients are having various kind infections problems.

Does anyone have recent statistic of the real percentage of problems
with those kind of lenses ?

If I used the monthly one night and day replacing them every 2 weeks
would this diminish substantially the risk ?

Or if I used the Oasis for 3 days continuously (according to J&J they
can be worn night and day up to 7 days) replacing them would it be the
safest solutions ?

many thank for your time and replies

The silicone hydrogels (Oasys, N&D, Purevision) have a better record than
previous generations of materials, but the incidence of problems is still
proportional to the length of continuous wear.

Taking them out one night a week, or every three days, brings down the risk
considerably, giving your eyes more opportunity to heal the wear-and-tear.
Even though the lenses might be approved for 30 days of continuous wear,
doing so just for convenience probably isn't justified. FDA approval doesn't
mean everybody can get away with it.
