I am 50 years old, have a history of Iritis and Gloucoma. I have had
Gloucoma for about two years. My cataract in one eye are due for
surgery.
I have tried using bifocal glasses in the past, but it gave me lot of
headaches so  i could not use them. I was told that this was due to
my
weak eye muscles.
Would my getting headaches with bifocal glasses and/or weak eye
muscles make me a bad candidate (or preclude me) for multifocal lens,
when I gets cataract surgery?
Thanks in advance

Multi focus IOLs have so far proven to really suck. You don't need to
add to your eye problems with these.

I suggest that you read through the posts on the two eye care forums
at Med Help International before getting multifocal lenses.  There are
MANY unhappy people with multifocal implants.  The take a look at the
patient education video at www.tecnisiol.com for an alternative--
aspheric monofocal lenses.  These lenses can be set for monovision (if
you're a candidate) or modified monovision, which will undoubtedly
give you better vision (and the same range of focus) as a multifocal
lens, without the premium lens surcharge or the many problems
associated with multifocal/accommodating lenses.

I agree with the other responders. DO NOT GET MULTIFOCAL IOLS.

They are an optical nightmare. You won't need bifocals after surgery
anyway.  Probably reading glasses and maybe driving glasses, but maybe
neither.

If your surgeon STRONGLY recommends multifocal IOLs, find another
surgeon ASAP.

My results with MF IOL's have been very successful to date. My
patients have been very happy.

Maybe it is a surgeon thing. My surgeon is very patient friendly and
the patients are very enthusiastic.
