No, but FYI...

Barnes Jewish Hospital has a highly rated ophthalmology program (rated
#10 is US News & World Report 2007 Best Hospitals -- see
<http://tinyurl.com/2dzser>).

Yes, thank you......I had a six level cervical fusion there in May so am
familiar with the hospital but don't know which retina doc to get an app't
with.

Looking at the list, I have narrowed it down to a few but would like to make
sure I get one that has used the oil successfully instead of doing the face
down.

I have had this hole for 40 years due to a car accident (blunt force trauma)
and 15 years ago I had cataract surgery on this right eye and that resulted
in a hemorrhage/slight loss of vision and distorted vision.

Within a few months ago, I started getting double vision and they corrected
that with glasses.)prism)....so all good, just seeing mainly out of the my
"good" left eye.

Now I have lost two lines of vision within the last two weeks and am seeing
double again out of right eye. ......not correctable with glasses so surgery
is my only option.....this would correct the distorted vision, double vision
and all with this repairing of the hole and removing the scar tissue from
the accident.  The retina scan showed no changes but the vision loss and
double vision is why I need the surgery. The retina doc here in Columbia,
Missouri said that I should get a second opinion.

My other "good left eye" had a cataract removed a few years ago with a lens
implant so I see good out of that eye for now.....was very high myopia with
both eyes so when they did this last cataract surgery, they had to numb the
eye with a needle before surgery.....thank God everything went well and
continues to do so.

Now I am faced with this upcoming repairing of the hold in retina.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

While I know (by reputation only) a lot of pre-eminent retinal
surgeons, I know none of the ones there.

You do know the problem with the oil is they have to do a second
procedure to remove it at a later time?

Make an appointment with one of the retina docs there (pick one), tell
them your concerns and ask him which of them is best at treating your
particular problem.

Thank you Anon.  I did make an appointment with one the Retina Doc's August
21 and will go from there.  Yes I do know that the oil does require a second
surgery but because I had that six level cervical fusion in May, I just
don't think I could do that face down position.

I do know that my Retina Doc here said that he had to redo all his surgeries
that he had used the oil so now he just does not do it.
