Astigmatism

Hi
I have a small amount of astigmatism (-0.25) in one eye which I understand is
very small. I wear contacts so given that -0.25 small I was surprised that I
noticed the difference between my eyes when I was test with lenses in. I
could read 20/15 with the better eye and only just 20/20 with the other.

It made me think about a problem I which I have reported to my optometrist -
my overall contacts prescription is -2.25 and -2.75 (the -2.75 eye has the -0.
25 astigmatism @ an angle of 135). With contacts everything is fine but after
a while without glasses (I generally don't wear them in the house) I get a
dull ache behind my astigmatic eye. The optometrist wants me to have an
appointment with an eye specialist though he can find no problems with my
eyes. Could this small amount of astigmatism be making this happen?

First thoughts - be sure you don't have the lenses switched, and be sure
it's a problem with more than one pair.

Hello Mike
With lenses/glass its fine. It's without I get the ache, would the
astigmatism do that?

No, a quarter-diopter of astigmatism shouldn't cause pain. It's something
else, though I'm at a loss to suggest what that might be.

Can this sort of thing be psycho-sematic?  I've heard of this kind of phantom
pain before but it is really associated with uncorrected vision?
