I have been under treatment for the past 7 months for episcleritis.
My doctor prescribed FML Forte with 600 mg ibuprofen 3 times a day
with little results. Following that he prescribed Lotemax along with
the ibuprofen. Over the last 3 months the condition has been improving
but very slowly.

My question is is it unusual for episcleritis to last so long and is
there anything else I can do to speed recovery other that just waiting?

Yes, it is unusual.

Get a second opinion unless your doctor can explain exactly why it is
taking so long; "sometimes it just takes this long" is not a good
explanation.
