Again, my apologies, Kind Sirs (and Madams):

I found myself attacking our friend, Mr. Crooks, yet again.

This time, my argument read as follows:

Neil said:

>Many people feel that it's "buyer beware" and that any harm that
>befalls you for following advice gleaned over the internet is just
>tough luck.

And, without thinking, I replied:

This is another point on which I simply cannot agree with you.

Actually, I just think that if a parent has not educated their child
in such matters prior to allowing any usage of the internet, or if
they are not absolutely sure that the child does not have the
appropriate level of intellect nor maturity to question certain
treatment therapies that may be found across the net -- then they
should not have been allowed use of the internet at all.

But with further thought, I would like to say:

I realized that all I was doing was confirming Neil's position.  In my
example, the children whose parents haven't caught on to their
children's behavior, and haven't, therefore, decided to prohibit their
naive children's use of the Internet, don't deserve to be protected.

I realize now that what Neil is saying that ALL children deserve to be
protected from Internet predators--regardless of how they came to be
vulnerable--whether by, themselves, being too trusting, or by having
parents who are inadequately involved, or whatever the reason.

At the end of the day, I cannot, nor should I, find fault with this
position.

Deeply sorry ... again.  Hopefully, in the future, I shall think
before I speak.

But don't count on it.

Subject:  My appology to Mike Tyner

I was wrong.  Having seen the response of "DarkProtoman",
I must agree with you.

A lot of the posters are as you describe them them, below.

You ask why am an engineer, and can not deal with
the general public -- the way you do.  This is
exactly the reason.

I like people who can sit down and reason-out difficult
scientific problems.  You have made your point quite well.

Enjoy,

Otis

Reason your way through these ... and come up with an answer or two,
eh?

Dear Mr. Crooks,

Since you are a layman, and do not understand squat
about the eye's behavior, perhaps this will help.

Here's a brief flash animation as to why we get nearsighted in the
first place and how minus-lens glasses only worsen the problem.

We all should be willing to help Neil Crooks, and his
black-hole mind about science and the natural
eye's proven behavior.

For your part, could you help me out by simply answering the following
questions?

Thanks!

Dear Neil Crooks,

Maybe you could help me explain how a optometrist
is supposed to deal with the public -- when this
is the typical "understanding" the public has
to basic instructions.

Doctor: Now cover the other eye.

Patient: (reaches up and covers left eye with his hand) Now I can't
see anything!

[snip Mike's story]

You know, Otis ...

Since Mike Tyner still comes around here ... we COULD ask him whether
he relayed this anecdote to describe a TYPICAL patient or whether he
meant it to define an outlier.

... unless your story is more convenient for you than the truth.

Also, if the problem is insufficient intellect, what does that say
about your niece, Joy Benson?

Nothing good, I should think.  No, nothing good at all.

Meanwhile, how about answering MY questions:

Thanks.

this is totally hilarious.  you infer that YOU understand the eyes
behavior?  you know ZERO about the anatomy, physiology, biochemistry,
and optics of the eye.  you have a simple-minded notion that they eye
adjusts its refractive state depending upon the degree of
accommodation.  for all ages?  and what about ALL THE EVIDENCE that
disproves what you say?  and why do you run away and hide when asked
to explain why the research studies disprove your theory?

a simple-minded little animation that seems profound to your simple-
minded little brain.  too bad it just doesn't really work that way!

how do you know ANYTHING about the proven behavior of the human eye?
have you studied it?  have your examined many people over many years?
you make such a fool of yourself time after time-- its just incredible.

I agree that respecting the natural eye as a dynamnic system
in terms of measured refractive STATE is a profoundly
different idea that satisfying the general public with
very-sharp vision from a minus.

They are worlds apart in concept.

Enjoy,

Otis
