Visual Acuity Tests and Squinting

Hi there

I am applying for a job where my unaided visual acuity needs to be
6/36 in my left eye and 6/24 in my right eye.  I know I have no
problem reading to 6/36 but I am concerned that I will not be able to
read to 6/24 (third line down on a British chart) unless have a small
squint very briefly.

I was wondering if squinting briefly in such a test is permissible or
if an optician would be reluctant to allow this in order for one to
read a little lower down the chart.

Any advice would be appreciated.

He should be reluctant.

If the lights are dim, you might accomplish the same thing by asking him to
turn up the lights.

Watch Clint Eastwood movies and learn Eastwood's facial expressions. The
optician would not be able to tell whether you are squinting.

a little squinting should be acceptable
