This Feb., will be two years since my eye surgery.   This surgery was
performed by a retina specialist. The  procedure is known as a
Vitrectomy.   My symptoms were distorted vision in my left eye.  I was
no longer able to focus through that eye.  This developed rather
suddenly affecting my distance vision only.  

I was referred to this specialist by my regular opthomologist (sp?).
The specialist explained a membrane was growing on the back of my eye
and it needed to be removed.  The small catarac would need to be removed
before he could remove the membrane.  My regular eye doctor removed the
catarc and a month later I was admitted for the Vitrectomy.  The
specialist told me in six months I would be completely healed and my
vision would be much improved. This  has not been the case.  Since that
surgery, my eyelid is half way down my eye and I am unable to see
clearly
out of that eye even when using a magnifying glass.  I see him
regularly.   H e keeps telling me I have to givei it time.  I realize as
one ages, healing becomes a slower process but I believe something went
wrong during that surgery.  I am a 72 year old widow, living alone
without family.  This doctor is the only retina specialist in this small
city I retired in.  I do not know what I should do next. I have had
little experience with  medical problems of any sort,  until now I was
blessed with good health.  I think the closest city with a retina
specialist is 75 miles away.  With this bad eye I am afraid to drive
that distance.   Does this long healing process sound normal?  He
prescribed  Pred Forte, 1 drop 4xs a day. I see no improvement.  I would
