I know its hard to judge but is Ocuflox considered as safe to use as
erythromycin. Side effects etc. I always think twice, or thrice
before putting anything new in my eye. (measure twice, cut once, etc.)

As mentioned below, lid hygiene, particularly not compresses, are the most
important, probably accounting for 90% of the treatment.
Ocuflox is OK, but it is rapidly losing its effectiveness due to increasing
bacterail resistance.
I usually use an eyedrop after each compress (3 times a day) either sulfa,
Polytrim, or occasionally Ocuflox. Also use ointment at bedtime -
erythromycin, Polysporin, or bacitracin.
