Wrinkles in My Retina?

About two weeks ago I started seeing ... wavy lines with my left eye.
I took the test with a grid of horizontal and vertical straight lines,
and I saw them definiterly wavy in both directions with my left eye.
Naturally, given that that is true, everything I look at with just my
left eye gets distorted. My retinopathy specialist told me that there
are wrinkles in the retina of my left eye and as long as my vision (I
guess he meant with "both eyes opened") is OK, I do not need any
surgery. Could anyone up here shed some more light into this
condition? Is there anything that I can do to improve the situation in
my left eye?
Thank you vary much.

Dear Maria,

I saw the same thing.

I would get a second-opinion.

Wavy lines are one of the indicators of incipent detached
retina.  I would be concerned about this issue.

Some other indicators are "flashing" lights, and
a burst of floaters.

I had my incipient detached retina fixed with a laser.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of "cure".

Opinions vary on this subject.

I would be careful.

Best,

Otis

opinions do not vary on this topic.

if it's not who you are seeing now, you should be under the care of a
retinal specialist.  a retinal specialist is a special type of
ophthalmologist who specifically treats only disorders of the retina
and does nothing else.  perhaps your doctor is such a specialist-- we
can't be sure from your posting.  anyway, wavy lines can be caused by
several things such as cellophane maculopathy, macular edema, etc.
there are many things that can cause a positive Amsler grid result but
a retinal specialist is where you need to go to get a good differential
diagnosis regardless.  if you trust him/her and he is a good doctor he
will lead you properly.  do not be alarmed that it is probably a
retinal detachment.  it certainly could be related to your retinopathy
but you don't specify what kind of retinopathy you have.

if the doctor you are seeing is NOT a retinal specialist then get to
one quick.

Assuming that your retinopathy specialist is a retina specialist (if not, go
see a RETINA specialist immediately), I believe that the wrinkles he talked
about are macular puckers. Generally, no treatment is recommended unless
vision loss is severe due to high risks of the surgery.

Thank you, Otis, p.clarkii@gmail.com, Fidelis K. Yes, my doctor is a
retina specialist.
And yes, he did mention "macular puckers" while he was talking to me.
It looks like he was correct in what he told me about the condition of
my left eye.
Thanks again.
