Hi:

Where can I find a comparison table that shows relative oxygen transmission
levels for various contact lenses? Either by brand or material. A website or
web page would be great.

It seems that more transmission is better, but how important is it?

I recently tried Silicone Hydrogel lenses, but had problems w. stinging. Am
looking at alternate brands/materials, and which do reasonably well
oxygen-wise.

thx!

Actual transmission depends on lens thickness and lens power as well as
the transmission of the material.  Most materials on the market today
have sufficient oxygen for most users.

As far as transmission goes, enough is enough and more may not be
better.  Some eyes require more oxygen than others and overnight wear
demands more.  The choice of lens brand is based more on how well a
lens fits a particular eye and how compatable the lens material is with
that eye's tears than on O2 transmission.

The source of stinging  is more likely related to care solutions, edge
design or fit than to material, though a percentage of people tend to
deposit silcone hydrogels.  Rely on your fitter to quide you through
the maze of lens choice.

See below for an older article that discusses lens material
