Hi,
I found the name of the device that I stuck my head into, which was
basically a box on wheels, with a goldfish bowl, chin rest, three black
dots a white background, and a choice of lights... either, a pulsing
blue spark, a "yellowish" light, or a really bright white pulsing light.
I did some digging on the internet and found it can be used for EOG or
ERG. I understand from the technician, that he was testing my retinal
responses, but Im rather bewildered therefore as to testing regimes.
I've heard of being stuck in the dark for half an hour, followed by at
least fifteen minutes of testing.
I spent two minutes in the dark, followed by about five minutes of
testing. I think. I know that they finished all the tests on me,
including the VER test and other strobe tests within, oh what, half an
hour or so?
I had electrodes on the temples, the lower eyelid and one on the forehead.
Also I've heard of Ganzfled stimulators having coloured LEDs not three
black dots?
When I think about it, I wonder if I've just been appeased, ie "he's a
fruitcake, pretend to do the tests, but don't spend any real time".
Im inclined to believe there were no neurological problems indicated
from this test, but I am rather curious about the visual artifacts I
observed while performing the test.
Despite the test being so short then, do you think they will have got
some useful results?
Given what I've said, do you think the test is an EOG or ERG?
Either way, what kind of problems could the test show (so I can research)?
Why, under the yellow light, would I see "ghost" images of those black
dots, but under the pulsing white dots the "ghost" dots merge back?
Cheers
Simon
