yo
i've had contacts for the last eight years.
they are now scratchy/sore/irritated ... no matter what lens solution I
try. i also try and leave them out at least one day a week.
last time i saw the eye doctor it was recommended that i do the above,
and suggested that i wear glasses more.
i dont like glasses :( and i'd much prefer to not have to wear them.
however, laser is not an option for me at the moment (I've had a
consultation and for me, it's best not to do it until after i've had
babies, cos your vision may change with hormones. plus i'm a bit
scared of the whole procedure!).
Sooo ... my contacts prescription is -3 and -3.5.
Do I bite the bullet and wear glasses full time? If so what are good
ways to do this ... i've been avoiding it so long I am a bit scared :(
Thank you :)

You can easily get orthokeratology, this will make you very close to
plano if not plano. I have been wearing glasses full time and plan to
get orthoK to reduce dependency on glasses. Dont bother with lasik, its
useless, dangerous and causes complications and occular damage to all.
Whoever argues otherwise has a financial incentive in lasik. I am never
touching my eyes and neither are my friends. Those who already had
lasik wish they had not done it!
orthoK or glasses is the way to go. Your prescription isnt even that
high and you will be glad in a few years NOT to need reading glasses.
Just take your distance glasses off to read and eat like I do. You
could get by with part time glasses wear if you are tolerant of a
moderate myopic blur. Lots of my friends between -1.5 and -2.5 wear
glasses part time, but you are in the -3 range. I am in the -4 range so
my eyes really suck!

"neither are my friends"
pray tell, how many 'friends' would that be???? i suspect it is close
to '0'.

If you have not seen your doctor about the change in comfort with the
contacts, and followed any subsequent instructions, then this question
is hard to answer. It may simply be the need for a higher oxygen level
for the cornea, or throwing them away more often, or a need for
treatment of dry eye or lid problems may rectify the problems without
having to resort to glasses.

I am sorry, but what is your problem?
Are you too vain to wear glasses?
Is there a problem with getting an eye test?
Where is the problem with glasses?
Do you want to cause damage from overwear of your contacts?
Who said anything about full-time glasses?
Get your eyes tested, get some glasses, ask your optom about some of
the new lens materials that will not dehydrate so much. It really isn't
that difficult.

With -3 and -3.50 or so, wouldn't fulltime wear be inevitable? If not, when?

This is one of the rare times I have to agree with you. Not that youd
care since you think im an "idiot" anyway. Ill just point it out for
reference. I too think she is vain. She has even mentioned something
about getting laser. If she would take better care of her eyes and
alternate between glasses and contacts, she shouldnt have problems.
Wear glasses at home(like my mom does) and contacts for going out.
