Fluorescent light

I've read that too much visible blue light may be bad for eyes and that
fluoresecent tubes give out more blue light than traditional incandescent
bulbs.  Is this correct?

My father has wet macular degeneration in one eye
and has lost all central vision.  In his other eye he has slight dry macular
degeneration and there is a risk that he will develop the wet type in that
eye too.  I'm wondering whether we should remove the fluorescent lights in
our house.  I would be grateful for opinions on this.

Thanks

David

David,

 Go to

Dan Roberts has an exposition on lighting.  Good luck with your father.

David,

Only if he feels he sees better with the different lighting.

Indoor lighting is much less intense than sunlight, with the evidence suggesting
but not confirming that high energy visible/blue light (sunlight) is a risk
factor for AMD. I would concentrate on protecting both your father's eyes and
your eyes from sunlight by using amber (wrap around if possible) sunglasses.

Hope this helps,
