Have been told it is dry eye, but the drops don't work. Nov 2005 it
started, eyes were always red, but no pain. Then about Jan 2006 started
being very sensitive to the light, being on the computer or tv caused
severe eye pain. Had an eye exam, didn't need glasses, everything
looked good. Problems still persisted. Had another eye exam, same
office, different eye doc. Was told that I needed reading glasses. I
knew that wasn't true. Went to Opthomologist, who wasn't sure what was
going on. Could be dry eye, could only suggest that maybe a CAT scan.
Went to another opthomologist who said dry eye, I told him the drops
don't work, pain is still there, said to try different brands till I
found something that worked. So nothing is working, I have discomfort
24 hours a day, woke this morning with horrible pain behind my eyes. I
have researched on the internet but can't find what I may have, I am
miserable and am hoping maybe someone out there might have an idea what
I have.

Not that Im a doctor, and not that I know you're story, but I am a
computer user, and frequent TV watcher, and sympathise with eye pain,
you've probably talked about this before, if so, apologies, but have you
thought about?....
How much do you use the computer during the day? I know I've had issues
where I've used computers constantly and then I've ended up with
terrible eye ache, and it's even hurt to move them. Just throwing that
idea into the pot.
If you think it's anything to do with light, tell me, LCD or CRT
Monitor? Do you wear sunglasses while doing your work? How are you like
outside?

Maybe a combined total time of an hour on the computer per day and
maybe 4 hours combined on the tv. These do make matters worse so am
closing my eyes more frequently when watching tv.
Problem is there when I first wake and continues throughout the day. It
is persistent with little relief.

Yeah, shouldn't cause that many issues then. If you spent 12 hours
playing computer games... I could understand it... Hope you find an answer!

Not sure what type of screen. Have tried using sunglasses in the past
when the pain was boring in the back of my eye, then it did help. Now I
use my glasses for when I am in the wind. Sometimes it feels better
outside, sometimes the opposite.

Not a doctor or anything else related to medical.
But some questions I would ask myself are:
Have you been taking any wierd supplements, ointments, cremes or been
taking any prescription drugs since that time? If so make sure your
doctor knows about it.

Just some more questions, again just to get you thinking.
1) Are your eyes worse in the morning, or later in the day? Any chance
you sleep with your eyes open?
2) You said the drops didn't help. Did they get worse after you started
taking drops? Have you tried cold pressed flax oil as an oral
supplement?

pain is pretty much consistent from morning till night, sometimes pain
is so severe I could just cry, normally will just lay down and close my
eyes. Drops do nothing, sometimes they just make my eyes sting.
I have been taking Omega 3/6 supplement occasionally, but I will get
what you have suggested below. I am willing to try anything, I can't
live like this. Thanks to all above who wrote with suggestions.

I have been on and off Paxil for the last few years, just going off
now. Am hoping this might be the cause.

I'm no doctor, but you should talk to your doctor before going off your
medication. Perhaps you can discuss this with him/her and see if this
could be a side effect of your medication. They might be able to
prescribe something else for you if this is a possibility.

Dr is aware of me discontinuing my meds and will be providing something
else once this one is out of my system.

Dry mouth is a well documented side effect of Paxil. Dry eyes often
occur with dry mouth. Paxil may very well be the cause. Ask your doctor
about this. Make sure you taper off Paxil slowly under the care of a
doctor. Stopping too quickly can produce some nasty temporary side
effects.

Could well be. I was just on steroids and had the same problem which
everyone said wouldn't have been caused by the steroids but as soon as
I came off them, it all went away. I think it's a side effect that
people don't imagine. Good luck.
