contacts and boxing

Is it okay to wear contacts while boxing or fighting?

Do many boxers wear contacts while boxing?

I would not wear non soft contact lenses while engaging in boxing or
elective fighting where strikes are involved (i.e., Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu, submission grappling would be fine; Karate, NHB fighting
would not).

No. World Boxing Assoc rule for professionals. The International Amateur Boxing Association does allow them (soft), but very bad
idea for the obvious reasons.

Do they allow hard contacts?

I do not understand the reasons for not allowing soft contacts.

I ask this because i have to prepare myself if some punk comes up to me on
the street and i have to defend ymself with contacts in my eyes.

If you read the response carefully, it said the IABA _allows_ soft. I don't
see why it's a "bad" idea. Soft lenses wouldn't make a blunt-trauma injury
any worse. Rigid lenses probably _would_ cause more damage than without the
lens.

Soft lenses aren't what I'd worry about. I'd worry about having credible
witnesses so I could file an assault charge.

why is it a bad idea anyways?

I don't know. I don't think it is. That quote was from another response.

I don't understand what adverse consequences could arise from wearing
soft lenses while boxing.  Having said that, I don't believe that
boxing requires exceptional distance vision, since the sport is
performed inside a small ring and the combatants are within arm's
length, most of the time, or should be.

Go figure.
