I'm wondering about asking my Dr to refer me to the hospital to get my
squint corrected.. Are there any problems that can arise from such surgrey
being done ?

Also, I have quite a high astigmatism..

Right Eye : Sph= +7.0 Cyl= -4.0 Axis =15
Left Eye : Sph= +6.0 Cyl= -2.0 Axis =175

I've heard of Toric contacts, but would they be suitable ? Also, would I
be able to wear glasses with them to help with close VDU work as at the
moment, I have to sit with my eyes about 10" from the screen.

The surgeon will discuss risks with you. Depending upon your specific
details ( size, direction of eye turn, corrected acuity, level of
suppression etc), it may or may not be a good idea for you to have this
surgery.

Why do you sit so close? Toric contacts will not deliver better vision
than glasses. They are available in your power, but will be tricky to
fit. Rigid lenses may be better. Your eye doctor or a good contact
lens fitter can give you more specific advice.

Because I can't see the text if I sit further away.. (albinism, strabismus
& nystagmus contribute to the lack of vision)

I don't have an eye doctor.. last time I was at the opticians they said I
couldn't wear contacts as my eyesight was too poor.. so I don't hold out
much hope of getting a sensible answer out of them.. hence the idea of
getting a referal to a hospital to see someone who has a clue.

Is there a particular make of RGP toric contacts that would be required for
my prescription or are there several manufacturers ?

Is there a Low Vision Clinic that you can be referred to? With
albinism etc you might benefit from special software that makes the
print on the computer screen larger, a voice interface or other low
vision aids.

There are many manufacturers, most RGP lenses are custom made to the
fitter's specifications; with albinism you might also want a dark
tinted contact lens to help with light control. With your assorted
vision problems you muist have seen an opththalmologist at some point
and can ask him/her for referral to a low vision clinic and specialist
contact lens fitter. Please be aware that your vision with contacts
will not be better than with glasses and may be worse.
