It's just one of those things that some people have - like a crooked nose, or big feet. Dom I think it's fairly hereditary. My maternal grandmom had about 3 D. O.U., my mom has about 2.5 D. O.U., I had about 2.5 O.U. and one of my 3 kids has about 3.0 O.U. (the other 2 have just a little, more like my wife). Another anecdotal piece I have is that in my practice I have had 3 sets of identical twins. Higher amounts of astigmatism tends be more likely to be hereditary whereas lower amounts are not. Not due to visual stress in either case. frank |
