What causes an eye to become bloodshot? I did some fairly strenuous team
exercise on Tuesday and that evening I notice my eye was bloodshot at the
bottom. Could it have been the exertion? I didn't feel anything poke me in
the eye. The next day I didn't wear my contacts but have today. It feels a
little sore but its better although it looks like there's a faint red ring
round the bottom of the coloured bit of my eye. I'm not getting any
discomfort so am I okay to wear contacts? It'll just be for tomorrow at the
weekend I'll give them a rest.

"Bloodshot" is very vague and subjective.

It can run the gamut from less than this <http://tinyurl.com/no9xh> to

So without knowing what your definition of bloodshot is, no one can
tell for sure.

Sure. It could be lots of things.

That likewise is very vague and subjective. For some people, it can

This is one of the reasons doctors many times can't diagnose over the
Internet and require to actually physically examine the patient.

Perhaps it could be a subconjunctival hemorrhage?

Most of the time it's idiopathic or caused by valsalva, but can be
caused by problems as severe as uncontrolled hypertension or related
to an intraorbital mass.

However, this is not a diagnosis only one of a myriad of
possibilities. Get your eyes checked.

Oh my, it's only like the first one you posted. That makes me think it's
really nothing at all. Those other photos were awful. Perhaps I'm making a
fuss.
Thanks for your reply. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't make it any
worse with contacts.

And maybe not. Why not give your eye doctor a call?
