I realize that myopia does not usually ever get better but I was wondering
about astigmatism. A friend of mine told me she was a +3.00 astigmatism when
she was about 5(also was myopic) and today she is only a +1..00. Is this
possible? My daughter is a +4.00 and a +2.00(astigmatism). Would there be any
chance on that number being lowered.

Astigmatism can fluctuate in children but usually does not change
a great deal (+- 2 d). So I would doubt that the 4 d of cylinder
(astigmatism) that your child has would decrease to any
significant amount.

I agree with Dr. Frank; as a rule of thumb, astigmatism doesn't change much
from year-to-year.

The textbooks say that on average, astigmatism increases gradually
throughout life, but that's an average based on a lot of variation. Some do
get better, occasionally accompanied by a shift toward myopia (which could
be a good thing in your daughter's case.)

Again agreement. The research suggests astigmattism reduces by 50% from
5-10yo, but this is for the average population who may have -0.50 to
-1.00 cyls. -2.00 cyls and above rarely change, either in power or
axis.

Yes.

Yes.  However, the odds are low that this will natrually happen to any
significant degree.
