Last month i woke up and the blood vessels in my left eye had broken.
It took about a week for the eye to completely clear up. Then last week
the vessels in my right eye broke. Again, it took about a week for the
eye to clear up. Now both eyes are just glassy red, which might be from
allergies. I'm stumped as to why the blood vessels would break. Anyone
have ideas? Thanks.

Rubbing the eyes, coughing and sneezing due to allergies might be a
cause.
Are you taking blood thinning drugs (including ASA)? Do you have
bruises on your arms and legs? Do you bleed easily? The broken
conjunctival vessels are the same as a bruise and anytime you notice
excessive bruising or bleeding you should see your family doctor to
rule out blood disorders.

The only medication i take is Claritin. I haven't rubbed my eyes unless
it happened while i was asleep. I don't have any bruises on my arms or
legs and i don't bleed easily.

The causes of subconjunctival hemorrhages -- from most common to least
common in my experience are:
1. Idiopathic.
2. Hypertension.
3. Valsalva/trauma.
4. Bleeding disorder.
5. Due to orbital mass.
FWIW, I would recommend you get your eyes checked.
