Today I got my prescription glasses for astigmatism (-0.75 in righ
eye, -1.50 in left)

I was told to wear them while watching TV and using the computer (i.e
all the time for me)

However, I am wearing them and looking at my SQUARE shaped compute
screen right now and I see a trapezium shaped monitor kinda like thi
: http://www.geocities.com/alclarke0/PolyPages/Pictures/trapezium.gi

The trapezium I see is not quite that narrow on top and as wide at th
bottom but it is CLEARLY there.

Also, if I look down at the keyboard it looks as if the table i
heavily slanted towards me

Finally, everything is a bit hazy which I was told to expect

My dad says he had this problem when he got his astigmatism glasse
too and he just returned them and got simple reading glasses. Bu
since I have astigmatism shouldn't get Astigmatism glasses for usin
a computer?

I am real confused. Please help

Your experience is pretty common for glasses that correct astigmatism.
Give it at least a few days or even a few weeks if necessary to get used
to them - persevere! If you still have trouble after a good couple of
weeks, then go back and ask for help - they can easily reduce the cyl
component if necessary.

This has been my experience also after a botched LRI.
What does reducing the CYL do?  My last OD hit the prescription quite
well with current trifocal script:
OD +.75/-3.00/99  Add +2.25  (Problem eye)
OS +.75/-1.00/70  Add  +2.25  (Provided for info only-it works fine)
I thought the improvement was due to a really fine job on the axis,
but what so I know.
Anyway, if OD CYL was reduced to-2.75 or -2.50, what would change
I have great clarity/sharpeness now.  The earth is just not quite
flat.
For th OP:  This OD spent 2 hours with me on day one, ensuring that we
agreed that the script was valid.  On day 2 he had trial frames set up
for me, and, after the wall charts,  we went for a walk.  He carried
some possible lens variations with him.  You might try this.
So, I am now satisfied that I have the best possible script.  I'm
still trying to decide if what I see is acceptable, or if I want more
surgery done (by someone else).

Reduce meridional magnification, therefore reduce aniseikonia, therefore
reduce the distortions in the vision.

Not a lot - slightly reduced clarity, and slightly reduced aniseikonia.
If I wanted to change a -3.00 cyl in order to solve an aniseikonia
problem, I'd want to change it by more than just 0.25 or 0.50. But of
course the more cyl you remove the more potential effect on the clarity.
Interestingly many astigmats aren't too concerned about having their cyl
undercorrected.
