i've had to quit heat compresses for chalazion because of discomfort
they cause. my face around the eyes become incredibly dry\red, begins
to flake excessively, feel leathery and even crack from heat and
moisture of the compresses, and i can not take it anymore. i have tried
various methods: compresses, hot steaming (the most effect for ridding
the chalazion, but also the most brutal to my face), all produce the
same uncomfortable result. i had been on 100mg doxycycline for a month
before stopping it, thinking my face had become incredibly sunburned..
this may have happened to some degree, but i realised later it was
mostly from the constant heat and moisture.. so i may try doxycycline
out again.
i tried using just a qtip dipped in hot water, it doesn't seem to be
the most effect thing.. i suppose i can't just leave the chalazion
there either, i will probably try the qtip for awhile.
any advice? thanks..

If you have had this for some time, see an M.D. and have it lanced or removed.
If you are burning your skin, it is way to hot. The idea behind that is to
soften the oils so that they will ooze out on their own with gentle pressure.
Long term, these oils are rock hard and need to be "surgically" removed. It
is an in-office procedure using just a small local anesthetic where the
offending meibomian gland is removed. Don't worry, there are many such
glands in your lids. My daughter had one of these several years ago and it
never reurned after surgery.

I have had a chalazion on my right eye for about two and a half weeks.
My eyelid has remained very red and dry. The skin started to scab, i
guess from the hot compresses. Last night the skin broke and a lot of
blood drained from the chalazion. Is this normal? I read somewhere that
they were not suppost to pop.

You likely had a hordeolum and not a chalzion and it is common
for these to come to a "head" and become expressed (especially
with lid massage).
