My wife had gone into the emergency room here in Canada over a week ago.
The doctor said she had pink eye, and was given ratio- ketorolac. She works
in a daycare by the way. It didnt work, and they dont alow you to come to
work for 24hrs until after using the medicine for a 24 hr period. So my son
had an apointment with the doctor the next day anyways, so she came with us
and the doctor said she was given the wrong medicine. She was given ciloxan
ciprofloxacin hydrochloride , it worked after 24 hrs. I woke up a week
later and couldn't open my left eye. Went to emergency and was told I dont
have pink eye and was told it was an infection. He prescribed Fuscithalmic
and it hasn't helped any after 24 hrs, my eye is more swelled. A lady at her
work had the same doctor in emerge prescribe same medicine that as I and she
hasn't got better after being on it for 5 days. (same doctor as the one I had
by the way) Is this medicine safe that I was prescribe (fucithalmic). Don't
want to miss work on Monday by having to take time off if the medicine is
going to work. But if im using the wrong medicine, im debating wether or not
to go back to the emerge or go to my own doctor on Monday.
Thank you

Pinkeye is a virus like the cold virus. Antibiotics don't work for it and
the "24 hour" rule isn't very logical.
Bacterial infections are different. They may respond to one antibiotic but
not another.

We've never had a case of "pinkeye" in the house that couldn't be
handled with broad-spectrum antibiotic eyedrops, tho I do have a
friend who once had viral conjunctivitis. She was miserable for weeks

Adenovirus 8 is like that. Other adenoviruses and rhinovirus infections are
much more common and fortunately, they clear up much faster.
Pinkeye is viral. Viruses don't usually respond to antibacterial agents.

I had the medicine Fuscithalmic from my gp. in the first 2 days it got even
a bit worse, then a bit better. After 5 days I went back and even though the
complaints were not completely gone the gp advised me to stop.
You could be allergic to the medicine than it will get worse but at a
certain recognisable way. Just describe your syptoms to your gp and he or
she can tell you if it is an allergic reaction. When the complaints don't
diminish after 5 -7 days you can go back to the eyespecialist.
