hi
i have worn glasses for twenty years and recently decided to try contact lens.
i know absolutely nothing about them but i am currently on my second trial
pair which do not seem to be working( my vision is still blurry), i was just
wanting to know if i was given the proper fitting for a toric lens, and if
toric lens come in certain sizes. when explaining to my doctor that the first
trial pair was uncomfortable and that i felt it may be because they were to
big, he answered by saying they are all big. anyway the point i am trying to
get to is that i never had any meaursements taken of my eyes, is it needed
for a toric lens? could u also briefly explain to me what procedures are
given for a proper contact lens fitting.
thank u

Comfort and vision issues with contact lenses
(especially soft torics) are not so much size
related but deals more with the design, material
and base curve variables. Rotation of the
lens is one of the major causes of blurred
vision (esp if the vision seems to fluctuates).
It is not uncommon to have to try a couple
of trial contact lenses to get the best
fit. Witrhout being a fly on the wall, I have no
idea what tests the provider did but I'm sure
he obtained the needed measurements for
your cl's.
The diameter (ie size) of soft lenses are all
within a pretty narrow range from 13.5mm to 14.5mm.

I tried contacts too. several different brands and none were
comfortable for more than a couple hours. Also due to my reduced
accomodation, I lose some ability to see from near with full power
contacts. Im much happier with glasses and no, im not risking my eyes
with lasik!

Aceman the original question was not about lasik and it was not about
aceman's reduced accommodation or whether aceman is happy in glasses. It
was about toric SCL fitting.

i'm sure if you go back to your doctor and explain what you have
experienced he will be able to help you. often with toric contact lenses
you have to try a few different types to find one that suits you. there
are many things that could be causing blurry vision.
there are certain measurements that are routinely taken before fitting
with contacts, but theses days with soft contacts it's really a matter
of trial and error to some extent - in other words, try a pair of
contacts on and see what happens.

not everyone likes or tolerates contacts and torics are more difficult
