Normally "lens-design" shouldn't be a problem, as Boston 7
contacts in Europe should be the same as Boston 7 in the US.
All RGP lenses are custom made, that's why, both on the internet
and in your local store, you have to supply them with different
parameters as found on the prescription. I ordered my original
set of this type of contact lenses from my doctor, who obviously
checked them and comfirmed they were a perfect fit (ie: base curve
and diameter match my eye). Right now I am looking into a cheaper
replacement pair.
It's hard to believe customs would charge as high as 100 euros
for import taxes.
So any other opinions on buying from coastalcontacts.com or
stories about european customs jumping on imported goods?

You may save about about 100 EURO but paying peanuts you get monkeys.
What happens when the lenses don't fit well?
Who should recognise the problem?
Who shall pay the visit of an eyecarespecialist?
If the customs charge you, and this is certain in Europe, your 100 EURO's
are gone.
However, of more importance is can you order the same lens-design as your
originals?
Not likely.
Contactlenses in your country often are custom made.

Soft lenses are made in lots of hundreds of thousands of lenses at a
time, then they are placed in little foil wrappers like "vision
condoms" for use worldwide. Rigid lenses are made individually from
little plastic rods, that are then cut into individual sections called
"buttons", and then the surfaces of the lenses are lathed into the
button. With the same contact lens prescription on paper, the final
RGP lens can come out thick or thin, with sharp edges or smooth ones.
The buttons can be uniformly perfect or wavy, the edges can be machine
cut, molded or hand lathed.
Jan is 100% right. Rigid lenses by mail is a total crap shoot.

Boston 7 is only the type of material, it could be made in any lensdesign.
In your country they use ''buttons'' off Boston 7 material to fabricate the
end product.
Look at the site you mentioned Joris and you find out ordering a specific
design is not possible (i.e the ellips value, edge clearance, thickness or an
optical zone if necessary )

Ask the customs how much they charge you and keep in mind you also have to
pay your shipping costs.

What design? THey are all different. Material is important as Boston 7
is really7 out of date. There is a huge difference in fitting, design
powers in RGP, get the ones prescribed for you not a somewhat copy.
