I have a friend who has something like -17 glass lenses and she has
broken her frame.  Is it possible with glass lenses, to refit them
into a new smaller frame or would they break while trying to do that?
They were very expensive which is why she would like to reuse them.

Ann,

I'll assume that the frame can not be replaced. Make sure of this because
replacing with the original is very much preferred over repairing, substituting
parts, or fitting into another frame.

If the lenses are tempered (likely if fit in the USA) it's unlikely that they
can be re-cut and edged without breaking.

However, it's possible that they will fit properly into a re-shaped plastic
frame. It's very difficult to keep the optics properly positioned though. The
bridge fit will probably be less than optimal resulting in additional optical
and physical fit concerns. Because of the above I would only attempt to do this
for a backup pair, where some compromise in fit can be accepted, although with
this Rx I would only want to compromise on fashion and not the vision, even for
a spare pair.

Hope this helps,

Thanks that's useful, I'll pass it on.  We're not in the USA and I
don't know what tempered means but she can always ask about that.
