In May of 2003 I had a cataract operation involving a vitrectomy. In
September of that year I developed CME and it resolved about a year later,
during the course of which I used Voltaren for most of that time.

I had a simliar operation in the other eye last August, and guess what?
Well, I have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Buys (Kaiser) tomorrow.

I am apprehensive over the possibility that he will think a month or two of
treatment is sufficient. So I'm checking for Dr. Robins' messages on this
subject in the archive; I'd like to print one or two of them out and have
them with me tormorrow.

Hello,  When the CME resolved, how was your vision? I ave developed
CME, post cataract for about 5 months, the drops seem to all irritate
my eye so my MD's have stopped them and advised to wait and see...

It's 20/15 now. It took about a year to reach that level, after the symptoms
first appeared. Voltaren stings, but I don't think it should be
discontinued for that reason. Patience is needed.

Thank you, How was your contrast sensitivity, before / after, that
seems to be the biggest impact right now.  My MD has prescribed Nevanac
for the next attempt.  Do you have any experience with this drug?

It was very bad, and improved along with acuity. It appeared that text was
blending into the background. I have no knowledge of Nevanac, unless it is
another name for Ocular, another NSAID used for this purpose.

Thank you for you answer, this is a very frustrating condition to track
and cure, I tried Acular and experienced symptoms of corneal edema
after approx 1 1/2 weeks

Did you develop CME in the other eye?, My understanding is that if you
have it in one eye you have a very high chance of developing it in the
other eye

Yes. The reason why I waited so long after the first operation to get the
second surgery done is because I expected the condition to develop in the
other eye as well, which it did.
