Did he start her on a steroid drop? Sometimes after cataract surgery
patients experience some swelling in the macula (central portion of the
retina). If she is not comfortable having surgery until her left eye is
seeing better, by all means, postpone surgery. The doctor should understand
her not wanting both eyes being blurry at the same time. Ask him to explain
her condition. If it is macular edema - it should gradually get better, not
worse. The amount of time can vary from patient to patient. Drops are the
primary course of treatment. Diabetics are at higher risk for developing
macular edema.
