Hi everyone,
I don't know if this is brain related or vision related. I have been having
this weird thing where all of a sudden on eye will get bright sparkles in
front of it and its very hard to see. It is very similar to when you rub
your eyes real hard and then re open them and its hard to focus because
you're seeing spots and sparkles. Does anone know what this could be???

Dear Carey,
Subejct: "Sparkles" for no good reason.
I do not know if you are nearsighed, or how old you are, but
un-explained sparkles can be an indication of an incipent detached
restina.
(One recent report on sci.med.vision is a stark warning of this
problem.)
I would suggest finding an ophthalmologist (medical doctor) to examine
your retina -- and to discuss your symptoms.
There are techniques to "stich" the retina back to the supporting
structure to prevet retinal detachment.
(I am not a "doctor" but I am well-aware of the symptoms.)
Best,
Otis

And you still have no business posting a reply discussing possible
diagnosis and treatment. True, you are not a doctor, you are a quack, a
nut-case with delusions of being a doctor.
Oh....two things: 1. Optometrists are quite capable of dilating the eye
and examining the retina for possible breaks and tears. An
ophthalmologist, one trained and skilled as a retina specialist would
treat the condition if that was indicated. 2. There are other possible
causes of those signs and symptoms, but you wouldn't know that, of
course, not being a real doctor.

You should go to an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. It could be
that you are have a retinal detachment or tear. Best you get a
professional opinion and physical exam rather than relying on an
internet diagnosis.

See an eyecareprofessional ASAP.
They check your eye(s) for a possible glaucoma or retina problems.
Hope this helps,

How long do the sparkles last for?
If 10-30 minutes: probably a migraine with visual aura: don't panic just
see your family doctor who will do some general health checks. And have
an eye exam just in case.
If just a few seconds: probably a change in the vitreous humour,
possibly with retinal implications: have an eye exam.
