My doctor told me that I'm nearsighted and need glasses to see far
away. Other than that, my eyes are fine/normal. However, I need my
glasses to read and use the computer. They're not reading or computer
glasses, they're for distance. OTC reading glasses don't help me see to
read, but my distance glasses do. Why is this? It feels like it has to
do with eye strain. When I try to read a book or the computer screen
without my glasses, my eyes feel strained. The more I read without my
glasses, the worse it seems to get. I always try to wear my glasses but
there are times when I don't like to because I'm afraid they'll get
broken.

It may have more to do with your computer screen being beyond the "farpoint"
of your myopia.
It's hard to guess without knowing the actual prescription. Why not post it?

I think the best bet is you also have astigmastim which makes things
blurry at all distances. You probably have enough accomodation to see
clear from near, such as half meter with your distance glasses. My
other thinking is you are a high myope and youd have to hold everything
very close to your face to see clearly where in the case its actually
easier to see with distance glasses. I have presbyopia and I still use
distance glasses(slight undercorrection) sometimes for reading, but I
do hold reading material at arms length. My myopia is high enough that
without glasses I must hold stuff close to my face. Forget even seeing
this computer monitor without glasses, this isnt possible unless I
reduce my myopia to -2 or less. I sit 2/3 to 1 meter from the monitor
depending if I lay back on my swivel chair.

Sorry but I do know alot about it. I still say its astigmastim because
all my nearsighted friends can see great from near without glasses,
that is except those with astigmastim.

Ace's "circle of friends" come through again to prove his point. Next he
may try Lawn Chair U just to experience life outside of his bedroom
where is computer is located. He's planning on canvassing the foot
traffic in front of his house for his next great conclusion. Who needs
equipment and objective testing when Ace knows?

LOL RT.
Ace thinks that having spent 10 minutes reading something makes him an
expert. This logic would have me as president of the US, China and
Russia. Now that would be pretty cool.

whether or not its easy or not for you to read without your glasses
depends on how nearsighted you are.
who cares what your opinion is. you are just some kid with an interest
in vision but no training or experience. no one can give this poster
any help until he provides more information.
