A silly old fool
Without any credentials
Exploits parents' fears.

Failing to become a pilot
Making it his life's mission
to sell, not to prove.

Lacking in science
Hell-bent on repetition
equates to bad logic.

Pathological
Craving attention from all
Never cured a soul.

Dismissive of fact
Facile at twisting your words
Pennsylvanian dolt.

Once claimed "engineer"
Yet has ill grasp of science
Synapses all dead.

Hide your children folks
With Otis, there's no recourse
All fault lies with you.

Fundamental eye
Input-output box camera
Obfuscatory

Can't stand challenges
Must ignore your side
True genius, I've none.

That's it for now.  The New Year's festivities await!

Happy New Year, Uncle Otie.  Maybe you'll be the next Stanley Williams,
repenting in jail and earning a Nobel Prize nomination when you turn
over a new leaf!

He wont be happy when he reads this. I dont know the full story but I
believe Otis was tricked into wearing a strong minus lens when he was
like 6 and as the story goes, his eyes got worse rapidly. His family
and friends who used the plus lens instead was spared the horrible
myopia fate. He witness the wonders of myopia prevention and now
educates us about the evil minus lens. He also has seen people improve
their pseudomyopia, one guy being -2.75 and is now 20/40 or better.

That is indeed the fable.

Is that because you believe that you can write *better* haiku, given
the same topic?  Then I challenge you to do so.

>I dont know the full story

No, Ace, no, you don't.  Anything else you typed after that was
superfluous.

For whatever reason, the clarion call--the siren's song of the plus
lens has lured you in.  I hope it offers you some success.

Don't forget, though: just because somebody with a pathology as clear
as his *believes* that he "didn't have to be so myopic" or that "the
plus lens cost him his life's dream" doesn't make it so.

Dear Ace,

Subject:  Why ODs can not offer you the "preventive" plus.

An OD degree costs about $120 K and 4 years of his life.

Embedded in the public are psychos like Neil Brooks.

If any OD attempted to help you will the plus (and you
were psychotic like Neil -- what do you think would happen.)

There paractices are set up for "defense". Would you risk
your college degree under that circumstance?

Optometry must sink to the lowest common denominator among
us.

It is for this reason the "majority opinion" ODs are exonerated.
There is not a blessed thing they can do for true-prevention,
do do not expect anything from them.

Neil has made that point far, far stronger that I could ever
have made it.  Learn from it.

When you have children, and the child starts
getting "into it", the perhaps the "second-opinion"
ODs will be better organized, and we will
learn that in effect Neil Brooks is dictating
"practice" -- such as it is.

And that is why I separate pure-scientific issues from
"medical issues".  They are PROFOUNDLY different
in caracter and goals.

Best,

Otis

Likes faith over fact.

Ten studies in hand
Only one supports my stance
I must ignore nine.

What works in primates
Surely must work in humans
Therefore, I must preach.

Full disclosure? NO!
I will always play doctor
Chips fall where they may.

My book did not sell
None would part with cash for tripe
Will they read for free?

No matter what's said
I will turn the topic 'round
Plus lens: all I know.

Dear Dicky,

Subject:  The future -- and Ace

Actually, the arguements that Neil, You, I, DrG,
do not matter.

The only issue will be for Ace, when he sees his
kid reading a book at 4 inches (-10 diopters) and
whether Ace will be wise enough to pry the
kids knose off the book.

And give the devil his due -- Neil writes
good poetry.  That is why we are
enjoying ouselves on sci.med.vision!

Have some wine and cheese -- and let
us hold our symposium!

Best,

Otis

Waynesboro?

I did not usually lock my doors, I will reconsider. Too close to Eastern side of Franklin County, over by the tourist trap.
If he showed up wearing his plus lenses, he would probably trip over the stuff in my house. Another law suit.
I would probably have the adjoining cell, then I would have to hear about it in person. Put me on suicide watch.
My Jack Russell hates raving quacks, I am protected.

Is there not a Dr. Brown that is an Optometrist next to the K-Mart?
(Near the new Lowe's and Wal-Mart), I wish they would open soon. What action should I take if I see you? Take a picture for the SMV folks?
Not a good idea, I would have to look through a minus lens to aim the camera.
Hide in the Pharmacy, near the reading glasses?
Maybe you could get a paying job in the optical department.
I would shy away from working on commission. They move to many minus lenses in there. Think if they only give a piece of take on minus lenses.
It could be a conspiracy, think if you could prove it. Doctor, optician, lab. Even better, take on Wal-Mart, make it a class action.
You could get that $172 billion, like California. The lawyers would get most of it. But, YOU would get the satisfaction. At least, it would pay for
that dial-up you've got. You could rave on here for a couple more years. You could buy out Dr. Brown's practice. The only store that will not let a
minus lens in the store. Oops, a patient walks in to have his glasses adjusted with minus lenses. Rip them off his face, and send him on his way.
You have done your good deed for the day. Don't worry, you can do the same thing tomorrow.

Is Dr. Brown a bitter relation? Maybe his own relative used that nasty "-" lens on Otis.
The nerve...I am surprised you did not sue him for malpractice, causing you to be able to see distant things again!
That is certainly a crime.

I hope he is not related to you. It would be such a shame for you to drag the good family name down with you in the crossbar motel.
BTW, that is not the telephone switch I am referring to. Sprint (LEC) doesn't use them anyway, they use a DMS.

Do people still sky dive over in Chambersburg? My friend used to dive over there, he had his minus contact lenses in.
He is 43 now, he got glasses when he was 18. His rx went from -1 to -1.75 in 25 years, he would not listen to me about the plus lens.
You could have met him personally at the airport, probably where you hang out looking for primates.
I heard their lease was running out on the airport use.
If those pilots used a plus lens, they could land on a tree, that would be smarts. Even worse, not being able to see the pull string.
So much for being a pilot.

Cheers
John

P.S. I suck at spelling, I don't care. I don't know how to have the computer check my spelling. So put up with my ramblings.
I will post anyway, no matter if I don't want to drive, or cannot grasp the art.
