Hi:
Are there any cases of bilateral SUBJECTIVE light perception seeming
much dimmer than what it is w/out affecting color, image, or motion
perception?
I ask because...
I used to have this frightening sleep paralysis disorder when I was
around 10 years of age and when it began, the light entering my eyes
seemed to be MUCH dimmer than what it
actually was.
Once, during that age, I had an attack of paralysis in the night with
my desk lamp on. This is a bright lamp and it uses 100 watts. When the
attack began the light seem to only be 4 watts.
In another case, I paralyzed in the middle of the night. When this
happened, I could no longer see any light from my night light. Totally
black.
The most frightening case I had was when I took a nap in the afternoon,
around 12:00 PM. This is the brightest part of the day. However, when
the paralysis attack began, the sky dimmed to point that it appeared to
be approximately 8:30 PM. I was terrified and I could not break out of
the paralysis.
The paralysis usually occured when I was extremely relaxed [both
mentally and physically]. It seemed more likely to happen when I faced
upward.
What interests me, is that despite the perceived dimness [and sometimes
even absense!] of light, I could still see colors, images, and motion
CLEARLY. It was just so wierd. In reality, the brightness of the
environmental light probaby didn't change at all. It was just a
hallucination.
Thanks,
Radium

Some have suggested that sleep paralysis may be linked to the
post-synaptic inhibitions of motor neurons in the pons. Low level of
melatonin may stop the depolarization current in the nerves. This may
be an evolutionary trick that kept our ancestors from walking off a
cliff...
All motor nerves pass through the reticulum of the pons except for the
motor nerves of the eyes. So the best way to end sleep paralysis is to
move your eyes or open your eyes not try to move your toes or scream...
I had sleep paralysis for almost every time I sleep but that was long
ago. Almost always, I experience a sort of various visual
hallucinations BEFORE I sucessfully opened or moved my eyes. I even
thought that I was staring outside my window and thought that the sun
was still up but in fact, it was past midnight.
So even if you thought that your eyes really moved, or opened, there is
still a big chance that your are still hallucinating. But if you're
really sure that you're awake, here is my question: did you experienced
other things before being fully awake (i.e. having full control of your
body) or it's just what i imagined? that your view become brighter and
that was accompanied by a sudden jolt in your body and suddenly you
were able to move your body once more?

The dimness probably was a hallucination. But why was the hallucination
always like this? I remember being very interested in light, outer
space, and the brain at the time. Could my interests have triggers
these hallucinations of 'dimness'?

maybe...
it's still a state of being half-awake and half-dreaming... and dreams
can be influenced by thoughts from the waking state...
but it still your private experience...
what i did was to help you take careful steps in making sure of what
you experienced...
i hope i helped you... =)

This is a must read on eye health and maintainance. You may or may not be
affected , but you might be shocked!
Please excuse the interruption , but I thought you may be interested to know
what may be causing all kinds of health problems for yourself or for your
loved ones. I can't seem to get it through to my wife's brain about this
vital health issue, Now she is always saying she is having trouble with her
vision. Gee, I wonder why? I am so pissed off right now, I really want to
slap some sense into her. She has been feeding this poison to my four
children for years after I asked her not too, so you can see why I said what
I said previously, but I would never hit my wife. Why are people ignore what
science brings to are attention about health issues. I am really upset, but
I hope this helps you....since I can't get through to my wife of 16
years.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK Mr aspartame freak. At least connect the dots between the aspartame,
your rant, and the subject in the post you're responding to; or crawl
back under the bridge, you troll...
