Contacts feeling dry

I am finding my daily disposable contacts very drying. I had some two weekly
disposables in the year and they seemed more comfortable, although the
dailies seem to give me better near vision - the others felt as though they
slipped a bit.

Is it just that I find the 2 weeklies more comfortable, or is that a more
general trend. The lenses I have are -2.25 and -2.75. I put them in around
7am but mostly by 5 in the evening i want to take them out which is annoying
because then my distance vision is obviously compromised.

I also find contacts drying to the eyes. They also compromise my near
vision. I am much happier with glasses than contacts and you may be as
well. You can also lift your glasses to see from near instead of having
to take reading glasses with you. Since your a fairly low myope, you
may not even need glasses full time. How well do you see uncorrected
and with corection? whats your glasses pescription?

My glasses and CL prescriptions are the same and I see great/read fine with
both, although I mostly wear CLs I go without glasses too.

Kat, look at some of the new silicone hydrogels. They are designed to
not dry as much and can be worn for longer periods more safely.

Look for brands such as Purevision, acuvue advance and oasys, ciba
O2Optix and night and day. They all work well and are worth a try.

I believe I tried one of those silicone hydrogels, it was more
comfortable but still dried my eye. People have suggested I buy
eyedrops and use them regularly. LOL now ill trade my dependancy on
glasses for contacts which dry my eyes making me need eyedrops and on
top of this I need to carry reading glasses with me! Plus theres the
risk of infection, hypoxia, irritation of the eyes, etc with contacts.
They may work well for some but I am not one of those.

Thank I'll ask about them. Are they new?  At my last check I was told not to
wear CLs for more than 10 hours, maybe because they make my eyes dry, I don't
know. Do the silicone type come in all brands or should I ask for something
specific?

Dr. Grant actually listed some specific brands below.

You may have some astigmastim and were given a spherical equivalent
with contacts. Vertex difference means contacts should be lower than
glasses. I wear -5 glasses but see great with -4 contacts. I have tried
-2.25 and -2.75 contacts and they correct me as well as -2.75 and -3.5
glasses respectivately. When do you go without glasses? I do only for
reading because thats all I can see with my -5 pescription. I use -3.25
glasses for the computer as its clearer and less strain on the eyes.
You may not have much presbyopia, but I have some presbyopia(or
accomodative dysfunction) so things are blurry from near with contacts.
Glasses are a little more forgiving. Yes do try those silcone
hydrogels. You may also want to try eyedrops to keep your eyes moist
while wearing contacts. Discuss this in detail with your doctor. I am
looking into ortho-k due to my intolerance to contacts.

My optician tells me that all the silicone types are monthlies. Is that right?
Or do you know any that might be daily?  Thanks ...
