For the past several weeks I have had tearing in my left eye. My
ophthalmologist believes that is due to a blocked tear duct and has
prescribed an antibiotic. If the blockage does not clear up he is
recommending surgery. In the mean time as my eye tears I have been
wiping the tear with a tissue. After a while the wettness of the tear
coupled with the tissue irritates the skin surrounding the eye. Does
anyone have any experience with any type of tissues which may minimize
the discomfort of wiping and absorbing the tear?

Dab, don't wipe. Try using a cotton hankie instead of a wood-pulp
tissue.

Did your doctor try flushing the duct out. Sometimes it is all that is
needed.

Yes, he tried that when I first came to see him. He flushed both eyes,
the right eye the solution went right down to my throat, the clogged
side the solution shot back out out of the duct down my cheek. I have
another visit scheduled and he will try again later this week. We'll
see if that works.

Try a small amount of Vaseline on the skin; it will protect it from the
salty tears.
