I wear Focus Progressives and I want to try a multi-focus gp lens.
The problem is finding a practitioner who prescribes and fits them.
Whenever I call someone in the yellow pages under 'contact lens', they
either say soft lenses only or say I have to make an appointment to find
out.  I went to one who said they fit gp lenses, but after the exam they
said that "I really don't want gp lenses.  Try these B&L soft lenses"

Anyone know of one in the Houston area who could help me?  Are there any
professional directories that would include the type of contacts they
prescribe?

TIA,
marc

There is a great contact lens clinic at the University of Houston
College of Optometry.
You'll be seen by both intern optometrists and senior staff members,
and the care is first rate.  Here's a link to their web page:

Personally, I would not go to a uni site. You tend to get newbies that
don't know much about what they are doing.

Greg Gemoules is in or near Houston isn't he? Texas is a pretty piddly
little state, so he couldn't be too far away. Greg knows his stuff on
RGP's.

Aw, thanks Grant.  I sort of agree with your comment.  One tends to get
that "institutional treatment" when one goes to an institution.  I did
not go to university there, but Norman Leach is head of contact lenses
at the U of H.

Besides, Marc wouldn't want to drive 4 - 5 hours to Dallas for his
follow-up visits now, would he?

I don't live in Houston, but in Columbus, Ohio.   I have been wearing
RGP multifocal contact lenses for 2+ years and love them.  I got them
at Pearle Vision in Gahanna, a suburb of Columbus.  The doctors who
prescribed them specialize in RGP multifocals, but my guess is you
could obtain them from a Pearle Vision location in Houston.   I would
call some of the locations and see who will prescribe them.
