My daughter is 5 weeks old today. Never opened her eye for first few
weeks and docs said it was normal.  She did not start opening her eyes
until a couple weeks ago.  Even then they were squinty, and in a few
pictures she looked oriental.  I am noticing that her right eye drifts
in towards her nose sometimes when she is watching something.  The left
eye doesn't move very much.

We are going to bring it up to the doc tomorrow at her checkup.  In the
meantime we are trying to "excercise" her vision as much as possible.

I am reading stuff about amblyopia and getting worried. These early
stages are so important. Is there other things we can do, or should we
go see a specialist immediately?

It's too early to worry about amblyopia. That occurs when one eye is
disadvantaged and neural connections don't develop as well as in the other.

Right now, neither eye is "developed" so there can be no real amblyopia.

She might have an eye turn, she might have high refractive error, or one of
several other things that can cause amblyopia. But at this stage, it's only
appropriate to have her examined by an eye doctor with experience in infant
vision.

Thanks for the reassurance.  I'll talk to the docs.
