i am a 61 yr old man with a number of medical issues... however, my
vision has been relatively good through the years, using low power
reading glasses for closeup work [1.50-1.75], but...
i have noticed these symptoms recently while watching tv, especially...
it seems that as i watch the tv, my vision is somewhat blurry...
however, if i look at the tv from either the upper or lower part of my
eyes [with head tilted either way up or way down... then, my vision is
very clear... compared to straight ahead position...
it is like the center portion of my eye lens is "scratched" [my weird
description] while the upper and lower portion of the "lens" is very
clear...
does anyone have a clue as to what i am experiencing? i understand
that i need to consult my va medical team to pursue this... but i
wonder if these symptoms are common at later age...
thanks!

So when you tilt your head "way up or way down" are you still looking
directly at the TV?
If the explanation is what you imagined ("scratched lens", or more likely
cornea, or retina) you'd have to look _above or below_ the TV.
If the clarity changes when you tilt your head and you're still looking
directly at the TV, it's most likely the pinhole effect from the upper or
lower lids partly covering the pupil. At 61 it's pretty normal to develop a
little nearsightedness, which would explain why pupil effects cause
clearing.
When blur results from the "lens" (or more likely "retina") it's unusual for
both eyes to be affected just alike.
Punch a pinhole in a 3x5 card and look at the TV through it. If it's
clearer, you're probably getting a little nearsighted.
