Hi,

I fell asleep for 3 or 4 hours in Focus Dailies yesterday evening.

What's the oxygen permeability of these lenses when dry? Should I get
away with it?

Eyes seem ok this morning, a bit bloodshot beneath the lids... Not sore
to blink or touch. I will not wear contacts for at least 5 days to give
my eyes time to recover from whatever damage may have been inflicted.

I would like to know what I should watch out for. If it's a risk factor
for corneal ulcer (non-infectious, I assume, considering they are
disposables and won't be reused) how long could this take to develop?

When I awoke last night my eyes were quite red but I had been drinking
and I mistook this for the cause... I think the bigger mistake was
trying to remove the lenses there and then, and it took a few attempts
before I had the sense to use an eye bath to get them moving again. (I
just didn't connect the dots at the time. I had been for a 3 hr run
earlier on, hot day, which is why I thought they may have dried faster
than usual and were just being a bit sentimental. It's only my sixth
time wearing lenses and I wasn't fully aware of the dangers of dropping
off in them, otherwise I would have had them out before watching TV --
I had been up for 24 hours straight so this is a bit of a one off,
luckily someone woke me up and it was four hours max, not nine or ten!)

Appreciate the group's advice,
Jamie

(Probably not too significant, but I've consulted the TV times (!) and
I was asleep for 2 1/2 hours, 3hrs absolute max. Hopefully I haven't
learnt this lesson the hard way.)

Back in the bad old days when the only soft lenses available were made
of some thick dense flexible plastic stuff, I used to sleep in mine
about three nights a week.  Eventually my eyedoc convinced me I was
doing myself no favors and I stopped the practice, but I did it for
probably 5 years.

I suspect that your nap isn't a problem.

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET.
This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%.
Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...
