Glass is definitely heavier but is it better, optically.

Gary,

You will see equally well through cr39 plastic or crown glass.

So, for the same prescription, would plastic or glass be thinner
or would both types of lenses have the same thickness?

Glass would be thinner due to its higher index of refraction. The difference
would be about 5%, assuming identical minimum thickness and spherical design.

Hope this helps,

Yes!  I would try to opt for glass after cataract surgery whenever
the OD sets it up.  I am highly myopic now so the weight of glass
wouldn't be a problem if the prescription becomes quite "small".
