Hello,
Any astronomer contemplating LASIK eye surgery must read the latest
issue of "SKY and TELESCOPE" magazine for the most detailed article I've
seen on this subject: "LASIK EYE SURGERY for the Amateur Astronomer". It
doesn't just apply to amateur astronomers as this magazine is read and
respected by many in professional and amateur circles. It is nice to see
the pros and cons presented in an objective fashion.
Figures (in color) are fantasic, showing, among other things, figuring
the cornea, measuring the wavefront, fingerprinting the eye, examples of
glare, halo, double vision, visual simulations, and my favorite...
seeing stars with perfect vision v. wavefront lasik v. traditional lasik
via the point spread function. A real eye opener IMHO.
Other subjects covered include testimonials from astronomers, "going for
a tune-up",and a nice list of LASIK pros and cons.
If you are interested in maintaining or obtaining better vision, you owe
it to yourself to read the aricle. It appears in the September/05 issue.

I have received requests for copies or scans of this magazine article,
however that is not within my province, sorry. I suggest that if you do
not have a copy available in your location that you contact Sky and
Telescope for a copy. They can be reached at:
Sky and Telescope
49 Bay State Road
Cambridge, MA 02138-1200
(or) phone at 800 253 0245 (or) 617 864 7360
(or) web site at Skyandtelescope.com
BTW, I am not affiliated with the organization. I need to mention too
that the full issue also has articles on "Vision Quest: Optimizing Your
Eyes For Astronomy", and "Spectacles For Spectacular Skies", in addition
to the aforementioned LASIK article. This would be a good issue to
obtain as a personal copy. The figures, illustrations and color probably
wouldn't look as good with a copy made on a scanner.
