Several months ago, I experiences a virtual "floater" storm, the
notice in addition, almost by accident, that the vision in the ey
was cloudy and retaned a huge, hairy floater in the center visua
field.
I subsequently saw an ophthalmologist and learned i had not suffered
retinal tear or detachment, but that I had a cataract. After this
had extensive B-scan biometry to get correct pre-op measurements
etc.
On my drive home from this "fine" eye specialist, I experienced pain
and increasing pain, that did not abate in the eye and eye socket fo
several weeks. When I called to inquire of the biometry tech whethe
this could be an aftermath of the extensive biometry, given th
repeated 2-hours of it and had my pain and the possible relationshi
to the bonbardment of the eye with sound waves as any possible cause
The pain was horrid, abrutly stopped and immediately thereafer,
noted all the floaters were gone. However, almost immediately the ey
and socket felt tight, as though my eye were being forced into
squint from the top, back and side (the mirror revealed I was no
squinting).....however I have had the doc discount this continuin
discomfort AND the sudden appearance of lower eyelid swelling or wha
looks to be a pocket of swelling or liquid as just something to liv
with.
I find this unacceptable, as well as amazinly unexplored.
Anyone else every have this experience (not with a set of arrogan
docs, but the physiological sequelae>)?? My inquiry about th
biometry was simply to ascertain WHETHER there might be
relationship. And, the eye/socket and lid issues I was able t
attribute to possile vitreous fuild that neede to be reabsorbed. Bu
after a month of this discomfort and unpleasant aestheti
accompaniment, I am concerned and more than I little outraged.
Any one with a similar experience? Or, an informed opinion on jus
what happened here? My docs seem supremely disinterested in what'
going on

Did you return to the doctor to have the eye looked at or did you just call?
If the doc did not look at the eye during the episode, it is unfair to
expect him to explain it.
Vitreous fluid would not be visible on the outside of the eyeball so that is
not an explanation. Ultrasound biometry would not cause lid swelling. If
you had the eye drops to dilate your pupil, you may have had a closed angle
attack, which is a very rare side effect. It would cause pain and blurred
vision, but it would not last for several weeks and would not affect the
lid.
With lower lid swelling, I would suspect allergy or chemical sensitivity,
perhaps to something used in the doc's office (did you have drops?) or
something in the air in the car on the drive home (dust, insect bite?). An
acute allergic reaction usually only lasts a few days but could go on for
several weeks.
