weird "bubble" on my eye

Twice now I've fallen asleep on the couch and when I woke up there was
a clear "skin bubble" on the lower right, outside corner, of my right
eye.  The bubble sort of wrinkles up if I push on the lower lid,
otherwise it's flat but obviously not firmly attached to the eye.  It
kind of looks like a blister you would get on your skin.

Do I have something wrong with my eyes or is this natural if I might
have rubbed it too hard during the night?  Maybe I'm allergic to
something in the couch.

Last time it went away in about a day or two but was really irritating
and itchy.  I'm hoping it goes away the same way this time too.

How common is this?

Thanks folks.

It is essentially a blister: fluid under the conjunctiva (transparent "skin"
over the white of the eye) which is loosely attached.   The technical name
is chemosis.   Most often due to allergy or sensitivity to something that
you got into the eye.  The itching strongly suggests allergy.

As you age the conjunctiva can get loose and more prone to this problem.
Did you sleep on your right side-- it may simply be mild edema under loose
conjunctiva.

That's what it sounds like, thanks.

Since I've had LASIK I've been super careful with my eyes so any little
thing makes me nervous.

It's been over 5 years and I'm still at 20:15 vision (just went for a
flight physical this week and checked).  Best money I've ever spent in
my life.  Period.

Hi Folks -

IMO you should take your symptoms seriously, and take yourself straight to
an allergist.

Some 40 - odd years ago, my sister developed similar, but far worse
symptoms, it seems. After a family outing to a Chinese restaurant, her
conjunctiva or cornea (or both, I can't recall, exactly) swelled up like a
balloon, which necessitated our taking her to the ER of the local hospital.
It turned out that she had a severe, previously undiagnosed allergy to
mustard, and she had been playing with the plastic cups full of very hot
Chinese mustard. She probably had rubbed her eyes. She's now 45, and since
eating or touching mustard sends her straight into anaphylactic shock, she
has had to carry around an emergency kit of injectible epinephrine and
Benadryl all of her life. I don't know how common, exactly, anaphylaxis is,
but everyone on both sides of the family tends to be extremely
allergy-prone. In my case I just itch a lot of the time (atopic syndrome),
but my sister's allergy, of course, is potentially life threatening.

Best regards,
Fran

Fran, kinda of an over-reaction here. Bulbar chemosis from an allergic
reaction
does have MUCH more symptoms than a localized  garden variety conj cyst
(which is very
common).  Intense swelling and itching is a hallmark whereas a simple
cyst is
usually not even noticeable for most people.
