I have a problem of recurrent corneal erosion that requires me to lubricate
my right eye before I go to bed. The product that worked best for me was
Genteal Lubricant Eye Gel, made by Novartis, but it appears they no longer
make it, as I can't find it at local drug stores and it is out of stock at
online stores. Does anyone know if this is available anywhere, or if there
is an OTC product that is similar to it?
Thanks,
Tom

AFAIK, it is still available and still manufactured. It is listed in
Novartis (USA) over-the-counter products.
A similar product would be Theratears Gel, and it is equally difficult
to find on the shelf of your local drug store. Many pharmacies will
order either product for you. So can your eye doctor.

Refresh Liquigel is pretty similar (but not quite as thick) and works
well
for mild to moderate dry eyes.

Have you tried Refresh PM or Muro 128?

I've used Muro 128 for 6 years now at the suggestion of my O.D. It was
worked very well for RCEs and I went from having problems nightly to
having a problem once in a great while. Great product but pricy. $19
for a tube of petroleum byproduct and salt :-)

Yes, but generics are available. If you have a good relationship with
your eye doctor, perhaps they would provide an alternative source....or
ask the pharmacist if they can order a generic brand. The formula is
5% sodium chloride in light petrolatum ointment.

Brushfire - perhaps you should check out the website I am creating. I
suffered from corneal erosion and about a year ago I found a method that
works wonders.....I don't know why more doctors don't mention this.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I will ask my pharmacy to order it. Hope it
works.
