I finally (after 50 years) got a title for my blurry and itchy and
sometimes painful eyes. Since my first glasses I've been told "did you
know you had scratches on your cornea?" with every exam.
Since I have Type 2 diabetes, I get checked twice a year and - except
for the "scratches" - my eyes were fine until about a year ago when the
vision became increasingly blurry and sometimes painful. New doctor
gave me a diagnosis and I checked NEI. Sounds as tho it is someting I
have to chalk up to age 77 and live with - with lots of soothing drops
and gels.
Any suggestions? Anyone else with experience of this?

There are potential treatments (all painful), such as corneal
debridement, or diamond keratectomy, or PTK with a laser. You should
see a corneal specialist.

Nan,
I also have map-dot-fingerprint with many blisters. Last December
the corneal specialist inserted puntal plugs in the lower lids only.
The precedure was painless and covered by my insurance. I've had
immense relief, even over the winter months when my eyes used to be at
their worst. I've barely had to use any drops or ointments since
having the plugs inserted. Beverly
